As according to the Fiji Times that a team from the New Zealand Government is in Fiji to conduct assessments for the recruitment of the second batch of Fijian carpenters for the Christchurch rebuilding efforts.
Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau said the team would meet with relevant agencies regarding the recruitment process during their one weeklong visit.
Mr Koroilavesau also highlighted that the standard set by the first batch had given the "green light" to the employers and the New Zealand Government for more recruitment.
"That is the type of report that the Fijian Government would like to receive from other Fijian workers recruited for overseas employment through government to government bilateral agreements between Fiji, New Zealand and Australia," he said.
Fiji has set an example of partnership and legal labor trade between Fiji and the New Zealand. Once this connection is strong and secure, the benefits that will be gained from the Fijian workers is the increase in remittances. there is no doubt that other pacific islands nation also have their share of partnership but what is clear in the pacific islands nation is that Fiji is always taking the lead in everything as such. we hope our pacific island nations will work hand in hand with Australia and new Zealand for the good cause
